Abstract
The book of Jesús Treviño Guajardo, entitled Catholic Action in Monterrey: a generation with a social character, 1930-1971, highlights the way in which the parishioners of Monterrey organized themselves to support the ecclesiastical hierarchy at a time of tension between Church and State, and how after the modus vivendi, the model of ecclesiastical organization that Catholic Action represented expanded and consolidated. Thus, this book comes not only to enrich the historiography of religion in Nuevo León, but also to remind us that the study of Catholicism cannot and should not focus exclusively on the ecclesiastical hierarchy, but requires taking into consideration that great multitude of faithful not consecrated to the priestly ministry, but who are also an integral part of the Church.
